My Approach

Deciding to come for counselling is an empowering and important decision but can equally be overwhelming and somewhat confusing when it comes to the different varying approaches and how they work in practice. To give you a good idea of my areas of expertise and how I will be working with you, below I have given an explanation of each and their aims, including the difference between counselling and coaching so you can make the best decision for you.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

CBT is a widely used approach that focuses on the connection between thoughts, emotions and behaviours. It's aim is to identify, challenge and change unhelpful patterns of thinking and behaviour to improve overall well-being.

CBT is a collaborative approach whereby I will support you to identify patterns of thought that are not serving you. From here we will work together to bring in methods, tools and techniques to develop new, positive thoughts and make meaningful change.

Person Centered Approach

The person centered approach, also known as client led therapy, places strong emphasis on personal development, exploration and self-actualisation. It's aim is to empower, by giving you a safe space to explore and discover your own inner resources and find your own solutions. Person-centered sessions are led by you, whereby I will facilitate a safe space for you to do this without judgement or criticism. By offering you empathy, congruence and positive regard we have the opportunity to build a trusting relationship to support you toward self-actualisation.

Solution Focused Brief Therapy

SFBT is an approach which focuses on finding solutions to your problems, rather than dwelling on the problem itself. It's aim is to support you to highlight your strengths, resources and abilities to create positive change. SFBT is a more direct approach in which we will work together to set clear, achievable goals encouraging a forward-thinking and a solution orientated mindset. It is particularly effective in situations where you may feel stuck and overwhelmed, as it empowers you to take control of your life and come to the best possible solution for you.

Life Coaching

Life coaching is a process whereby I will support you to identify and achieve personal and professional goals. Unlike counselling, which typically focuses on past trauma, emotional healing and mental health concerns, life coaching is future-orientated and aims to enhance personal growth, success and overall life satisfaction. I will work with you to explore your aspirations, values and strengths in order to define your goals, develop an action plan and provide support and accountability along the way. Life coaching has a strong emphasis on self--discovery, self-improvement and being proactive in taking steps to achieve your desired outcome.
